Jovanovic: I will not resign

BELGRADE - Liberal Democratic Party (LDP) President Cedomir Jovanovic said after a meeting of the LDP leaders that he would not resign ecause of the party's defeat in the early parliamentary election on March 16.

The party has to find inner strength and conduct the necessary organizational and staff changes, Jovanovic said after the meeting of the LDP Presidency on Thursday.

The LDP will not merge with another party or take part in creating a conglomerat of parties and fake alliances, but it will instead work on polishing out the party's existing political agenda, he noted.

The LDP will stay true to the goals set on Novamber 5, 2005, when the party was founded, but it will have to do more in the future to reach out to the people and inform them about its programme, he said.

The LDP failed to reach the threshold at the snap parliamentary poll and won just over 3 percent of the votes, so it will not get seats in the parliament of the Belgrade city hall.
