NGO headquarters planning to monitor use of donor funds

BELGRADE - The Civic Initiatives set up a crisis headquarters entitled 'Udruzeni Gradjani za Srbiju' (Citizens United for Serbia) which will coordinate activities of volunteers and organisations in raising aid for the flood-hit areas, and in the next stage it intends to take part in the repair of the consequences of floods and monitoring of the use of donor funds.

”The crisis headquarters is currently communicating with and coordinating the activities of over 150 civil society organisations active in collection and distribution of aid for the most vulnerable,” states the release issued by the Civic Initiatives.

The headquarters began operation on Saturday and announced that aid will be raised in the same way as was the case so far for as long as the flood-hit areas have urgent needs for bare necessities such as clothes, food, toiletries and bottled water.

The Civic Initiatives noted that assistance has already been delivered to thousands of people whose homes were hit by floods and landslides around Serbia thanks to the volunteers accommodated on their premises and the team of the Foundation Dokukino which coordinates the campaign on the internet and social networks.

The organisation announced that the preparations for the next stage of the assistance provision have already begun and specified that 150 civic society organisations from their database have offered various modes of assistance, from financial and logistic help to volunteer work.
