Nikolic to be patron of International Congress of Slavists

BELGRADE - Serbian President Tomislav Nikolic conferred Monday in Belgrade with the representatives of the Serbian national Slavists' committee and members of the organizing board of the 16th International Congress of Slavists.

Nikolic, who accepted to be the principal patron of the Congress, commended the Serbian Slavists for their effort in difficult times and under difficult conditions, stressing that their achievements will benefit the generations to come, the Serbian president's press service released.

Members of the organizing board of the 16th International Congress of Slavists informed President Nikolic about the course of preparations for the Congress, which is to be held in Serbia in 2018, as an acknowledgment of the contribution made by the Serbian Slavists and philologists to the global academic community.

The International Congress of Slavists is the most prestigious scientific meeting of Slavists and one of the longest-running and most prominent events in the academic community worldwide. By hosting the event, Belgrade will become a global center for Slavic studies.
