The army is prepared to intervene in the flood-affected areas, stated the Ministry of National Defence (MApN) on Tuesday. "At the request of the National Emergency Situation Commandment and local authorities, the Ministry of National Defence is prepared to intervene in flood-affected areas with 1,229 soldiers and 206 vehicles", a MApN release remitted to AGERPRES shows.

* State Secretary of the Ministry of Internal Affairs Raed Arafat has stated on Tuesday, for AGERPRES, that in the counties affected by heavy rainfall all forces are mobilized and the Emergency Situations Inspectorate (ISU), the Gendarmes and the Mountain Rescue Service are working together. "All forces are mobilized. ISU, Gendarmes, Mountain Rescue Service, all forces involved will collaborate", said Arafat. He mentioned that in Valcea several helicopters were mobilized and 40 persons were evacuated from areas surrounded by floods. "We will send helicopters where we need to. We have a request to send a helicopter in Gorj. We are trying to adapt to a situation that can change in any moment. We immediately respond to all requests", added the State Secretary.

* Gilort, Lotru and Oltet Rivers, running through three counties of the southern Oltenia region, are under a Code Red warning for flooding, issued by the National Institute for Hydrology and Water Management (INHGA) on Tuesday, valid until 11:00 pm (Romania's time). According to hydrologists, in the interval 02:15 am—11:00 pm, following the heavy rainfalls over the past few hours and the ones forecast, there will be significant overflows on slopes, torrents, streams and fast flow and river level increases past the danger quotas on the Gilort River upstream of the Tg Carbunesti locality (Gorj County), on Lotru River...
