Independent candidate in the presidential elections Monica Macovei in an open letter requests Senate President Calin Popescu-Tariceanu to urgently convene a plenary session to discuss the situation of Senators Ecaterina Andronescu and Serban Mihailescu referring to the Microsoft file.

'I believe you have an obligation to Romanians, to your electors, included, not to hinder justice and to urgently convene the Senate plenary session for lifting the immunity of the two senators involved in the Microsoft file,' shows Monica Macovei's letter to the Senate President sent to AGERPRES on Thursday.

In the open letter, Macovei maintains that both postponing the discussion of the National Anti-corruption Directorate (DNA) request, as well as voting to reject the approval for the prosecution beginning 'can have serious consequences on the Romanians' confidence in the institution of Parliament and can lead to a negative report within the European Commission's Cooperation and Verification Mechanism, showing the lack of political will for combatting corruption.'
