Ranieri goes after Greece's worst record in the century

Two hours past midnight, and two and a half hours after Greece's humiliation by the Faroe Islands in Piraeus, the Hellenic Football Federation (EPO) announced its intention to see Italian manager Claudio Ranieri go, after he coached Greece to three defeats and one draw in four Euro 2016 qualifiers this fall.

Although the two-year contract Ranieri has with EPO has not be solved just yet, EPO president Giorgos Sarris stated: "Following today's [i.e. Friday's] devastating result for the national team, I take full responsibility for the unfortunate choice of the manager".

He added that the EPO governing board will meet on Saturday "to launch all necessary changes to avoid going through another embarrassing night for the national team".

Reports in the Greek media and in German magazine Kicker rage over a preliminary agreement with another Italian coach, Giovanni Trappatoni, while it seems increasingly likely that Greece will be without a coach in Tuesday's friendly game against Serbia in Hania.
