Tennis: Romania defeats Israel in Davis Cup

Romania has 3-0 against Israel in the tennis Davis Cup, after the doubles match between Florin Mergea/Horia Tecau and cup Bar Tzuf Botzer/Edan Leshem ended 6-3, 6-4, 6-4 on Saturday.

The match in the first round of the first round of the Group I Europe / Africa of the competition was hosted by the Transylvania Hall of Sibiu (central Romania), the hometown of President Klaus Iohannis; he was in the audience, as promised since Friday, accompanied by his wife Carmen.

In the singles matches on Friday, Romania's Adrian Ungur defeated Israel Bar Tzuf Botzer 7-5, 6-3, 6-0, and Marius Copil managed 6-7 (3), 7-6 (3), 6-4, 6-2 against Dudi Sela.

In the second round scheduled on July 17-19, Romania will meet the winner between Slovakia and Slovenia; Slovakians were leading 2-0 after the first day.

Iohannis's only comment after the Saturday event was: 'A very good match.' He also congratulated the Romanian players. AGERPRES
