Djokovic wins Laureus award again

SHANGHAI - World's best tennis player Novak Djokovic won the Laureus World Sports award for the second time in his career for the world's best athlete of the year, officials released at a ceremony in Shanghai.

Djokovic won the prestigious recognition for the first time back in 2011 when he won ten titles, three of them in Grand Slam tournaments, while in 2014, he triumphed at seven tournaments, including the Wimbledon Championship.

Unlike with the first Laureus award when he received the prize personally in London in February 2012, Djokovic was not able to attend the ceremony in Shanghai due to his participation at the Monte Carlo tournament, which is why Princess Charlene of Monaco presented him with the award.

The world's best female athlete this year is Genzebe Dibaba Keneni from Ethiopia, while the title of the best team this year went to Germany's soccer representation which won the Brazil FIFA World Cup.

The Laureus award was established back in 2000 and it is one of the most prestigious titles for athletes, and it is sometimes compared to the Academy Award. The winners of the award are selected by a jury comprising sports legends.
