Two dead, over 100 injured after explosions at milestone rally of Turkey's HDP

Two people have been killed in two explosions ahead of the HDP rally in the southeastern Turkish province of Diyarbak?r. While Energy Minister Y?ld?z ruled out claims of an accident at a power distribution unit, HDP co-chair Demirta?, who was only 30 meters away, called everyone to stay calm. Two people have been killed and over 100 have been injured in two explosions ahead of the Kurdish problem-focused Peoples' Democratic Party's (HDP) rally in the southeastern Turkish province of Diyarbak?r.

Initial Turkish media reports said on June 5 that the cause of two separate blasts spaced by five minutes, which created panic among the crowd, might be a power distribution unit near the rally venue.

Energy Minister Taner Y?ld?z, however, ruled out claims of an electrical accident. "There was an external intervention to the power distribution unit," he said. "Our inspection has clearly showed that the source of the explosion was not the power distribution unit. Its door was damaged with pressure coming from outside to inside and not vice versa."

Turkish Prime Minister Ahmet Davuto?lu, on the other hand, vowed to catch any perpetrators. "We will look into whether it is a power distribution unit explosion or an assasination [attempt], or any kind of provocation, and we will announce the result as soon as possible," he said at his campaign raly.

"As we have caught the perpetrators of attacks against the HDP in the past, we will catch any perpetrators here," Davuto?lu added.

Food and Agriculture Minister Mehdi Eker said two people have been killed and over 100 people have been injured.
