30-year old man arrested for breaking into churches and monasteries on Rhodes

A 30-year old man was put in custody on charges for a series of thefts and attempted thefts in Greek monasteries and churches on the island of Rhodes. He appeared before the Rhodes prosecutor claimed that he was at home during the alleged thefts, but his alibi was unconvincing to and the court ordered his incarceration. The defendant was arrested based on an eyewitness account of a 59-year old man from Ialysos, who reportedly saw two men breaking into the Church of Taxiarch Michael and stealing an unknown amount of cash from the candle counter before fleeing in a car. During investigations police authorities found out that the same men attempted to violate the candle counter of St. George’s church, according an eyewitness of a 54-year old women.
