Romania's Foreign Affairs Minister Teodor Melescanu welcomed Ahmad Majdalani, member of the Palestine Liberation Organization Executive Committee, on Wednesday, to reconfirm Romania's support for the completion of the Middle East Peace Process.

According to the Foreign Affairs Ministry (MAE), the talks were aimed at identifying the most appropriate ways of strengthening the bilateral co-operation relationship, including the political and diplomatic dialogue. According to MAE, Melescanu reconfirmed interest in the development of bilateral co-operation, as well as the organisation of the third meeting of the Romanian-Palestinian Intergovernmental Committee. He also reconfirmed Romania's support for the completion of the Middle East Peace Process by implementing the solution of two states, Israel and Palestine, coexisting in peace and security. He mentioned the need to take measures to help avoid the escalation of violence at the Gaza Strip-Israel border barrier in the future.

In his turn, the Palestinian dignitary underlined the importance that Palestine attaches to its relations with Romania, including in the context of Romania's assuming the EU Council presidency in the first half of 2019.
