Double podium feats for Slovenian ski jumpers

Linz/Klingenthal – Slovenia’s ski jumpers made it to the podium for the third day running as Nika Križnar and Bor Pavlovčič both finished as runners-up in their respective women’s and men’s World Cup events on Sunday.

Križnar placed second at the World Cup meet in Austria’s Hinzenbach for the second straight day after she won Friday’s event at the same venue, to enhance her position as the runner-up in the overall World Cup standings.

Meanwhile, Pavlovčič was second at the event in Klingenthal, Germany, to follow up on third place at the same venue in what was his first-ever World Cup podium.

Sara Takanashi from Japan won the women’s event with 234.1 points, 3.1 points ahead of Križnar, after she already bested the Slovenian rival the day before. Norway’s Silje Opseth placed third with 223.5 points.

This is the seventh career top-three finish for Križnar. She now has 451 points in the overall World Cup standings, only nine fewer than the overall leader Marita Kramer of Austria. Takanashi sits third with 426 points.

Pavlovčič finished only 0.7 points behind the winner Halvor Egner Granerud of Norway (288.5 pts), the overall World Cup leader with a total of 1,406 points. Germany’s Markus Eisenbichler placed third (285.7).

The highest ranking Slovenian in the men’s overall World Cup rankings is Anže Lanišek in 7th with 616 points. Pavlovčič is 16th with 353.

The next World Cup meet for men will be held in Zakopane, Poland, next weekend, while the women’s events follow in two weeks’ time in Rasnov, Romania, to be followed by the Nordic World Ski Championship in Oberstdorf, Germany.
