Handball coach out after Euro Champs fail

Ljubljana – Ljubomir Vranješ has been sacked as the head coach of the national handball team after Slovenia failed to make it past the preliminary round at the European Handball Championship.

The news was reported Wednesday by the National Handball Association, which said it was just as unsatisfied with the Swedish coach’s performance as Slovenian spectators were.

“We realise the disappointment is great… As always, we’ll conduct a thorough analysis to try and determine what led to one of the team’s most underwhelming performances in major competitions,” it said.

Vranješ took over as head coach in December 2019 and led the team to fourth place at the European Championship in 2020.

This year, Slovenia bid farewell after only three games, having notched up a win against North Macedonia and losing to Denmark and Montenegro.
