Picasso painting seized in Turkey dismissed as fake
A painting seized by Turkish authorities that was reported to be a stolen Picasso is a fake, the Picasso Administration, charged with managing the artist's estate, said on Feb. 1.
The organization said the canvas is a copy of a 1940 work by the great Spanish artist, "Woman Dressing Her Hair," and the original is in the hands of New York's Museum of Modern Art (MoMA).
Osman Hamdi Bey painting in auction
One of the hidden masterpieces of famous 19th century Ottoman artist Osman Hamdi Bey, "Cami Önü" (The front of the mosque), will be put up for sale in the spring auction of Antik A.?.
The painting was withdrawn from an auction in 2014 because of claims to the right of the painting. However, the court has now decided the painting will be auctioned by Antik A.?.
Turkish man jailed for rape attempt prevented by 'heroic' cat
A Diyarbak?r court has sentenced a potential rapist to 7.5 years in jail after his attempt to assault his 18-year-old aunt was prevented by the woman's "heroic" cat.
The woman, identified only by the initials H.T., avoided an attempted rape by her sister's son-in-law in 2014 after her cat named "Minno?" lunged at the 20-year-old attacker, identified only by the initials S.B.
Turkey hits all-time gas consuming record
Turkey broke its all-time natural gas usage record on Jan. 25-26, as 235 million cubic meters were used across the country due to cold weather.
More than 1.1 billion cubic meters (bcm) of gas was consumed during the period of Jan. 25-29, hitting another record on a weekly basis, according to data compiled by Anadolu Agency from the Energy Ministry.
Russia's Gazprom says exports to Turkey up 3.4 pct in January
Russian gas giant Gazprom said on Feb. 2 its gas exports to Turkey increased by 3.4 percent in January from the same month a year earlier to 2.82 billion cubic meters (bcm), said Chairman of the company's management committee Alexey Miller on Feb. 2, adding that the country is still Gazprom's second-biggest customer now.
Two suspected suicide bombers caught in Turkey's west
Police detained two suspected suicide bombers in the Aegean province of Ayd?n at a bus terminal on Feb. 2.
The suspects were caught while they were about to head to the neighboring ?zmir province from the Söke bus terminal.
A kalashnikov rifle, a hand grenade, bombing material, and ammunition were also seized in the luggage of the two suspects.
