President Putin's Rating of Approval Reaches Historic Heights

Russian President Vladimir Putin's approval rating has reached a new historic maximum of 82.3% in end-March, according to an independent pollster.

The majority of Russians believe the country is heading in the right direction, results of a sociological survey conducted by the All-Russia Public Opinion Research Center showed, cited by Itar-Tass news agency.

Bulgarian Court Acquits Medical Marijuana Grower

The Lovech Regional Court acquitted Marin Kalchev who was tried for owning and growing two cannabis plants in his home. 

Kalchev, who is diagnosed with multiple sclerosis, was using the plants for extracting cannabis oil to alleviate his symptoms, until last April his home was stormed by police, which found the two plants. 

Cross-party committee to publish report on WWII reparations by end of 2014


Parliamentary speaker Evangelos Meimarakis has signed a decision to create a cross-party committee to examine the claim for German war reparations.

The 19-member committee, which is made up of deputies from all political parties, is expected to submit a report on the subject by the end of the year.

The main cause of air pollution in Bulgaria are the fine dust particles, said the head of the Air Monitoring Department in the State Environment Agency, Valeri Serafimov.

Unions protest in central Athens


Hundreds of union members were on Thursday protesting against the government's austerity measures and high unemployment.

Demonstrators, mainly construction workers, shut down Stadiou Street in central Athens as they marched to the Ministry of Labor.

Thursday's rally is a follow up to the March 6 protest, organizers said.
