Toshko Yordanov, deputy chair of ITN (There Is Such a People) levelled extremely serious accusations against caretaker Minister of Finance Assen Vassilev of theft of intellectual property and illegal business practices.

Brdo pri Kranju – European Commissioner Janez Lenarčič rejected an accusation by Prime Minister Janez Janša that he was acting against Slovenia’s interests as he arrived for an EU ministerial at Brdo estate on Friday, saying “Slovenia is being harmed by those who undermine the rule of law and media freedom”, rather than those who warn of such conduct.

Ljubljana – The newspaper Delo criticises Prime Minister Janez Janša over his call for an independent inquiry into the 1988 massacre in Iran, writing in Tuesday’s front-page commentary that the timing and the manner were ill-chosen, and suggesting Janša lacks the credibility to defend human rights elsewhere.

Ljubljana/Tehran – The Iranian Foreign Ministry has summoned Slovenia’s Ambassador to Iran Kristina Radej over Slovenian Prime Minister Janez Janša’s recent calls for an inquiry into a 1988 massacre in Iran at Free Iran World Summit. Tehran condemned Janša’s appearance at the summit and asked for an explanation from the Slovenian government.

This was announced today by the European Council.
On June 21, the EU Council imposed sanctions against 78 Belarusian citizens and seven entities for serious violations of human rights and repression of civil society, the opposition and journalists, and for the forced landing of a passenger plane.

The former chief of Serbian State Security, Jovica Stanisic, and his deputy Franko Simatovic, were sentenced to 12 years in prison each on Wednesday by the International Residual Mechanism for Criminal Tribunals in The Hague for aiding and abetting the commission of wartime crimes in the Bosanski Samac area of Bosnia in 1992.

Stanisic and Simatovic are charged with war crimes in Croatia and Bosnia and Herzegovina in 1991 and 1995.

The Mechanism for International Criminal Tribunals in The Hague will hand down its verdict on Wednesday in the retrial of former Serbian State Security officials Jovica Stanisic and Franko Simatovic, who are accused of controlling Serb fighters who committed crimes during the Croatian and Bosnian wars.

A senior official from the Serbian State Security Service, Franko 'Frenki' Simatovic, arrived at a covert paramilitary training camp near the town of Ilok in Croatia in the spring of 1992 - one of many that would allegedly be set up by Serbian security officials during the wars that erupted as Yugoslavia collapsed.
