Janjic:Serbia gets stable govt,Constitution change to follow

BELGRADE - Dusan Janjic, director of the Forum for Ethnic Relations, stated on Monday that the victory of the list led by the Serbian Progressive Party (SNS) is legal, legitimate and binding, adding that Serbia will get a stable government, which will no longer be in a position to complain about the coalitional partners, while a change of the Constitution may be expected in a year and a half.

“The crucial question for the prime minister elect will be whether the government should be in power four years or the focus should be laid on the maximum results that would be achieved for Serbia rather than a party, as promised by (leader of the Serbian Progressive Party (SNS) Aleksandar) Vucic, and this means that in a year and a half we should have a change of the Constitution. As soon as the Constitution is changed, the elections will have to be called,” Janjic told Tanjug.

Janjic underlined that shortening of the government's mandate due to a change of the Constitution would be a better option both for Serbia and the SNS.

“A four-year government's mandate would entail a great risk of scarcity of funds and possible problems with the EU over the dynamics of the normalization of relations with Kosovo and negotiations,” Janjic said.

Asked about his expectations about the formation of a new government, Janjic said that he would not be surprised if it were set up late in May.

Commenting on the voter turnout, he said that this time the citizens did not see the elections as mobilization, while the ones who went to the polls knew why they were voting.
