Continuing European integrations a priority for government

BELGRADE - The new Serbian government is resolved to speed up the process of continuing the country's EU integrations, Serbia's Minister without portfolio for European Integrations Jadranka Joksimovic said on Wednesday at a meeting with the head of the EU Delegation to Serbia Michael Davenport.

"Having learned from the experiences of new EU member states, in the early stage of the (accession) talks we will strive to carry out reforms to reach the standards required to open the key Chapters 23 and 24," Joksimovic said in the conversation with Davenport, the government's press office said in a statement.

"For the Serbian government and me personally, it is a task that we have put among our priorities," Joksimovic said, adding that a new media law will be passed soon, that the judicial and police reforms will continue and that minority and human rights will be enhanced, as will the fight against corruption and organised crime.

Joksimovic and Davenport agreed that joint efforts and cooperation between Serbia and the EU are the most efficient way to implement reforms.

The EU ambassador said that all of the reforms are for the good of Serbian citizens and aimed at strengthening institutions and the rule of law, the statement said.
