April inflation at 0.6 pct, year-on-year inflation 2.1 pct

BELGRADE - Measured by the consumer price index, monthly inflation in Serbia rose by 0.6 percent in April relative to the previous month, increasing by 2.1 percent compared to April 2013.

According to figures from the Serbian Statistical Office, consumer prices rose by 1.8 percent in April compared to December 2013.

Compared to March, prices rose in the Food and non-alcoholic beverages product and services group by 1.3 percent, Communications (1.2 pct), Health care (0.8 pct) and Recreation and culture and Furniture and housing maintenance (both 0.2 pct).

Prices fell in the Transportation and Clothes and footwear groups (both 0.2 pct), as well as in the Alcoholic beverages and tobacco and Education groups (both 0.1 pct).

The prices of other products and services did not change significantly, the office said in a statement.
