Heinzmann: TAROM calls for carbon emission cuts, cost efficiency

TAROM could be part of an international team of experts to identify concrete steps to reduce CO2 emissions and adopt cost-effective measures, TAROM Director General Christian Heinzmann said on occasion of the Aviation and Aeronautics Forum (AVIATION 2014) in Atlanta, United States.

"The main benefit of TAROM attending the AVIATION 2014 Forum, besides the promotion opportunities for Romania and TAROM, was the opportunity to initiate future cooperation projects with international partners. As an airline involved in research projects on environment protection, TAROM voiced conviction that it can be part of an international team of experts, to identify concrete steps to reduce CO2 emissions and achieve cost efficiency," Christian Heinzmann said, according to a release sent to AGERPRES on Thursday.

On his part, Chris Markou, the representative of the International Air Transport Association (IATA) on issues of Engineering and Environment, said that TAROM was among the first airlines that used alternative fuel for a positive impact on the environment.

"TAROM's commitment has continued despite economic woes. IATA is still open to develop its partnership with TAROM, with the common goal to reduce CO2 emissions," Markou added.

The Aviation and Aeronautics Forum (AVIATION 2014) brought together 2,200 experts from 46 countries; the main purpose of the event was to find opportunities, tools and solutions to reduce the impact of aviation on the environment.

According to the release, TAROM was the only airline invited by the organizing committee ANERS to present its ideas and achievements on environmental research and the strategy to reduce operating costs.
