Still no agreement between minister and lawyers

BELGRADE - A meeting between Serbia's Justice Minister Nikola Selakovic and representatives of the lawyers' community at the Bar Association of Serbia ended without an agreement.

The participants in the five-hour meeting on Saturday pledged to continue the talks to find ways out of the current situation in the legal profession and the judiciary, Tanjug has learnt at the Ministry of Justice.
Tanjug learnt that the meeting was an open one, with a lot of discussion involved, but specific details of the talks were not made public.

The justice minister spoke with the presidents of the Bar Association of Serbia, the Bar Association of Belgrade, and the Bar Association of Vojvodina, Dragoljub Djordjevic, Slobodan Sosskic and Srdjan Sikimic, respectively.

The lawyers said yesterday that they would continue with the work stoppage that had lasted 53 days, claiming that the proposed amendments to a relevant law that was to be discussed in the parliament on Monday had not met their demands concerning the responsibilities of public notaries.
