Pundurs: Latvia supports Serbia's EU pathway

BELGARDE - Jadranka Joksimovic, minister without portfolio in charge of the EU integration, conferred on Friday with Latvian Non-Resident Ambassador in Athens Ivars Pundurs on Serbia's EU integration process on Friday.

Latvia advocates the EU enlargement process and supports Serbia on its EU pathway, Pundurs said, reads a release by the Serbian government's press office.

Minister Joksimovic underlined that the EU agenda is also Serbia's internal agenda, adding that the Serbian government is working hard to implement comprehensive reforms, not only in order to join the Union, but also in the interest of its citizens.

Joksimovic said that Serbia wants to become a functional part of the EU, and therefore its primary goal is not meeting deadlines, but rather high-quality reform process.

Latvia will assume a six-month presidency of the EU next year, and the ambassador and the Serbian minister agreed that the relationship between the candidate states and the Union is very important in the accession process.
