Max-security wing at Domokos Prison welcomes first inmate

Convicted urban guerrilla Nikos Maziotis on Tuesday became the first inmate to be transferred to the new maximum-security wing of Domokos Prison in central Greece, built to house inmates serving time for serious crimes such as terrorism.

The leader of the Revolutionary Struggle group was transferred from Korydallos Prison near Athens, which is also where the convicted members of the November 17 terrorist group are currently serving their sentences.

The new wing at Domokos is the country’s first facility to be built to European maximum-security standards.

It will be guarded by police officers appointed by the Public Order Ministry rather than regular prison guards appointed by the Justice Ministry.
