Crew wage protest keeps ferry moored to Samos

The passenger ferry Mytilene of NEL Lines remained anchored to the main port of Samos on Friday for the second day as the majority of the crew continued a strike, protesting over unpaid wages.

The ferry had been due to be towed to Piraeus on Thursday for repairs to an engine problem that appeared two weeks ago. But workers on Friday threatened to scale up their action unless the management of NEL Lines and the Infrastructure and Shipping Ministry intervenes to secure them their unpaid wages.

According to the Panhellenic Union of Sailors of the Commercial Navy, 80 percent of the crew of the Mytilene is involved in the strike.
