Eurogroup: Seal a deal tonight – Measures on Monday

Following the more-or-less successful Eurogroup conclusion on Friday, Eurogroup head Jeroen Dijsselbloem stated the following:

-       There is hope that in the end we will have a positive result

-       We are talking about trust, and today we took a step forward in the building trust.

-       We are on track

Furthermore, he said the four main deal points include a four-month extension. The agreement will allow the current program to continue. Resources for the recapitalization of Greek banks will be available during the extension.

Dijsselbloem continued, saying the aim of the request submitted by the Greek government is a positive result. Tonight we took a very positive step towards rebuilding confidence. There is flexibility in the program and we must be as flexible as possible.

Pierre Moscovici: “The Commission’s belief has always been that a deal must be reached in order to put an end to this period of uncertainty in Greece and in the Eurozone”.

On her part, the head of IMF, Christine Lagarde, described the deal as “long but fruitful”.

Finally, the head of the European Stability Mechanism (ESM), Klaus Regling, said that it would have been a shame to waste the sacrifices of the Greek people. He said he was happy for the commitment made by Athens to meet its obligations to all creditors.
