Iohannis: Romania wants to be active factor in finding political solutions to eastern Ukraine crisis

President Klaus Iohannis on Tuesday said Romania is supporting Ukraine's sovereignty, unity and territorial integrity, underscoring Romania's wish to be an active factor in the find of political solutions to the eastern Ukraine crisis.

'Romania wants to be an active factor in the find of political solutions to the eastern Ukraine crisis, in the promotion of democracy and peace in the region. We are interested in having a neighbour that is firmly committed to democratic consolidation and its path to Europeanisation,' Iohannis said before taking off from the Henri Coanda Airport for an official visit to Kiev.

He said his visit will start with a meeting with his Ukrainian counterpart Petro Poroshenko and continue with talks with Ukraine's Prime Minister Arseniy Yatsenyuk and Chairman of the Supreme Rada of Ukraine Volodimir Groisman.

'I want to reaffirm our constant support for Ukraine and its European path,' said Iohannis.

The President also said that featuring on the agenda of his conversations will be the latest developments in Ukraine, pointing out that he will once again voice Romania's support for Ukraine's sovereignty, unity and territorial integrity.

He mentioned that bilateral themes will also be discussed at the meetings with the Ukrainian officials.

'Romania is fully committed to strengthen cooperation and partnership between our countries, both in terms of political dialogue and in terms of actual projects. We are convinced that we can build an agenda steeped in pragmatism and trust,' he said.
