Germany: Phone-tapping is not a normal practice for us

“Phone-tapping is not a normal practice for us” German Finance Minister’s Spokesperson Martin Jeager said during regular government news conference two days after Wikileaks revealed the conversation held between two heads of IMF, Poul Thomsen and and Delia Velculescu.

He added that “there will be no split between Germany and the IMF due to the Greek issue”, while spokesman of German Chancellor Steffen Seibert said that “for us this conversation does not exist”.

Regarding the program review, Mr. Jeager said “it is expected to be completed by the end of April – early May,” adding that “a debt haircut is not up for debate at the moment.

He also stressed that “We are convinced that we will find a solution with Greece but more work is needed”.
