A second endangered lynx has been found shot dead in the eastern Turkish province of Erzincan, triggering public anger.

The lynx was found on Sept. 23 in the Tercan district of Erzincan, one week after a similar case in Kemah, another district in the province.

Officials from the Forest and Waterworks Ministry went to the site to investigate after being notified by locals.

The officials said the animal had been killed two or three days before it was found.

A probe has been launched to find those responsible for killing the lynx.

"It remains unknown who is shooting these animals. We want those responsible to be caught and punished," said one official.

In Turkey the fine for shooting endangered species that are protected by law is just 6,000 Turkish Liras, roughly $2,000.
