Turkey's unemployment rate rises to 13 pct, highest in seven years

Turkey's unemployment rate rose to 13 percent in January 2017, the highest since February 2010, official data showed on April 17. 

The rate showed a year-on-year 1.9 percent increase, according to data from the Turkish Statistics Institute (TÜİK). 

While the country's non-agricultural unemployment was announced at 15.2 percent with a 2.2 percentage point increase, youth unemployment increased to 24.5 percent with a 5.3 percentage point increase.

Turkey's seasonally adjusted unemployment rate was 11.8 percent in the January 2017 period with 0.2 percentage point decrease.

The employment rate realized as 44.8 percent with a 0.2 percent decrease, according to TÜİK. 

The number of employed persons was realized as 26.7 million with 397,000 persons increase in the period of January 2017 compared with the same period of the previous year. 

The number of persons in the labor force was announced 30.7 million persons with more than 1 million persons increase in the period of January 2017 compared with the same period of the previous year. Labor force participation rate (LFPR) was 51.5 percent with 0.8 percentage point increase. 

LFPR for male was 71.5 percent with 0.7 percentage point increase and the rate for female was 32 percent with 1 percentage point increase compared with the same period of the previous year.
