ATHEX: Two-tier stock market slides

Trading on the Greek bourse produced mixed results on Thursday, with banks and a number of other stocks sliding while other blue chips such as Aegean, OTE and Motor Oil led the majority of stocks higher.

The Athens Exchange (ATHEX) general index closed at 814.81 points, shedding 1.03 percent from Wednesday's 823.32 points. The large-cap FTSE index also contracted 1.03 percent to 2,152.36 points. Banks fared far worse, ending down 4.62 percent.

In total 63 stocks increased, 53 declined and 19 stayed put.

Turnover amounted to 82.7 million euros, up from Wednesday's 53.2 million.

The general index of the Cyprus Stock Exchange in Nicosia dropped 0.72 percent to 74.96 points.
