President Iohannis invites PM Dancila for consultations on Thursday

President Klaus Iohannis sent on Wednesday a letter to Prime Minister Viorica Dancila, inviting her for consultations at the Cotroceni Presidential Palace, on Thursday, taking into account the standpoints expressed by the Government in respect to the necessity to revise the state budget for 2018, the Presidential Administration informs.

"Romania's President, Mr Klaus Iohannis, sent on Wednesday, 5 September, a letter to Romania's Prime Minister, Mrs Vasilica-Viorica Dancila, inviting her for consultations, at the Cotroceni Presidential Palace, on 6 September, at 11:30hrs, under the provisions of the articles 80 and 86 of the Constitution, taking into account the Government's views on the need to revise the state budget for 2018," the Presidential Administration shows.

According to the quoted source, the consultations aim to clarify some aspects related to the revision of the state budget of the institutions in charge of the national security area for 2018, which represent urgent issues and of high importance.

Also invited to this meeting were the relevant ministers.

Romania's Supreme Council for National Defence (CSAT) convened on Tuesday in order to analyse the proposals to revise the state budget of the institutions in charge of the national security area for 2018, but the meeting was suspended by the head of state.

"Consensus could not be achieved, namely unanimity within the CSAT, and the opinion necessary for the budget revision could not be issued. I have made the decision to suspend the CSAT meeting because, as far as I am concerned, the budget revision is necessary but, on the other hand, we cannot disregard and we do not want to disregard the principle of loyal collaboration between institutions. And then, by suspending the CSAT meeting, we have created the possibility for the government to come back with a new draft revision, to backtrack on the budget cuts in the national security area, which can only be explained by such a term as "political shenanigan," to return to discussions, to collaborations and as soon as the situation will be fixed the CSAT opinion will be obtained," the head of state said on Tuesday.
