Daily coronavirus case count at 740, death toll at four-month low

Ljubljana – Slovenia recorded 740 new coronavirus cases for Monday as five patients with Covid-19 died, the lowest daily death toll in nearly four months. Hospitalisations hit their lowest since late October.

The latest government data show that 4,402 PCR tests were performed yesterday, of which 16.8% came back positive, as well as 37,830 rapid antigen tests where all those who tested positive were tested again with PCR tests.

Addressing the daily press briefing, the government’s Covid-19 spokesperson Maja Bratuša said that 691 Covid-19 patients were being treated in hospitals this morning, including 127 in intensive care units (ICU).

This is 47 fewer hospitalised patients and eight fewer ICU patients than a day ago, as 34 Covid-19 patients were newly admitted and 76 were discharged yesterday.

The last time Slovenia had fewer than 700 Covid-19 patients in hospitals was on 28 October, at 660 with 109 ICU patients. The last time fewer than five patients died in a single day was on 19 October.

The 7-day average of infections rose by 57 to 879 as the daily case count more than doubled on the same day a week ago, which however was a national holiday, so the figures are not really comparable.

“The infections are scattered across the country, which means the situation is still not as good as we would wanted it to be,” commented Bratuša.

The cumulative 14-day incidence per 100,000 residents was at 572 as of Monday and the 7-day at 293.

Data from the National Institute of Public Health show that Slovenia has so far recorded 180,507 coronavirus cases with an estimated 12,077 still active.
