Reports About Greek Police Ties With Mafia Face Investigation

It follows reports in the media on Sunday, January 29, of secret conversations between police officers and people involved with the fuel mafia.

A report in media outlet To Vima revealed conversations on Viber and WhatsApp on the activities of criminals, the non-implementation of court decisions and on the placement of persons in key positions in the police.

Published dialogues also concern the placement of certain people in the National Intelligence Service. They refer also to acquaintances in the offices of politicians, while the name of Theodorikakos himself was also mentioned.

A police press release said the minister ordered the publications to be sent to the Interior Service of the Security Forces to be investigated, and to the Prosecutor's Office.

Supreme Court Prosecutor Dogiakos asked that the preliminary examination be assigned to two prosecutors to complete the investigation as soon as possible.

The media outlet Reporters United reported that despite the alleged involvement of Brigadier General Dimitrios Davalos in an extensive corruption group, he was promoted to director of Attica Security Department, one of the most critical positions in the fight against organized crime.

Documento newspaper reported that a senior police officer alleged that a drug case involving Theodorikakos's son was also covered up.

On Sunday, Theodorikakos described as slander reports that his son in 2021, together with three other people, were checked by a police officer, calling it "an untrue and slanderous publication about a member of my family, which exceeds all limits of immorality".
