EU-Southeast Europe Summit starts in Bucharest with policy discussions

An EU-Southeast Europe Summit called 'On the road to stability and growth,' started on Monday In Bucharest, organised by The Economist.

The summit started with policy discussions. Opening the event were former prime minister of Italy Enrico Letta and former Greece Prime Minister George Papandreou, who underscored the important part Romania could play in the region.

Ivanovic powerless against Williams

SINGAPORE - Serbian World No. 7 Ana Ivanovic suffered a defeat at the start of the WTA Finals in Singapore, losing to American Serena Williams 6-4, 6-4 in their Red Group opener on Monday.

The Hungarian Democratic Union of Romania's (UDMR) candidate in the Nov. 2-16 presidential elections, Kelemen Hunor said on Monday Romania's partnership with the United States and the European Union must be enhanced and there is no need of any other security solution for Romania.

Greek toy retailer Jumbo lifts Q1 sales 11 percent

Leading Greek toy retailer Jumbo reported an 11 percent increase in sales in its first quarter to Sept. 30, citing robust growth in Bulgaria and Cyprus.

Jumbo, which operates 53 stores in Greece and 14 in Cyprus, Bulgaria and Romania, said turnover for the quarter was 145.5 million euros ($186 million), against 131.2 million euros in the same period last year.

Chinese Company to Build Romania Nuclear Reactors

Nuclearelectrica, the company that runs Romania's sole nuclear power plant, located in Cernavoda, has chosen China General Nuclear Power Corporation (CGN) as its investor for the development of two new nuclear reactors.

The project is worth of some 6.5 billion euro, according to company sources.
