Syrian migrants sit-in in second week in Turkey's northwest

Nearly 2,000 Syrian migrants have been holding a sit-in in the northwestern border province of Edirne for more than a week in the hopes of crossing to Greece, after they were prevented by security forces from traveling to European countries.

EC to give Serbia and Macedonia 17 million for refugees

The European Commission will give Serbia and Macedonia EUR 17 million as part of a money package of assistance to the countries affected by the refugee crisis.

As part of this package, the EU will allocate a billion euros to Turkey.

Bulgaria to Accept 852 Migrants Under 1st Stage of EU Quota Plan

As many as 852 migrants will be immediately relocated to Bulgaria under the first phase of a EU quota scheme approved by a majority of EU's interior ministers on Wednesday.

Of these, 201 will be relocated from Italy, and 651 will come from Greece, the Bulgarian News Agency (BTA) has said.

1,500 refugees sent from Edirne to other Turkish cities

Syrian refugees, who have waited over 10 days near Turkey's border with Greece in an attempt to reach Europe, were sent back to different provinces in Turkey, the governor of the northwestern Edirne province said.

Around 1,500 refugees were sent from the northwestern Edirne province, which borders Greece and Bulgaria, since late Sept. 21, Governor Ali ?ahin told Anadolu Agency.

German, French nationals detained in Turkey for abetting refugees

Five people, including a German and a French national, were detained Sept. 21 in Istanbul for encouraging Syrian refugees to head for Turkey's border with the EU, police said.

The suspects are accused of aiding and abetting refugees in circumventing police restrictions on migrants heading for Edirne province, which borders Greece and Bulgaria.

Turkish police stop migrants' advance toward Greek border

Hundreds of migrants who had been camping at the central bus terminal in Istanbul for days have begun walking along a highway connecting Istanbul to the northwestern province of Edirne, about 230 kilometers away, in a bid to reach border crossings between Turkey and Europe.
