11 students wounded after elevator falls in dormitory in central Turkey

Eleven students have been wounded after an elevator fell in a dormitory in the Central Anatolian province of Çankırı. 

The elevator in the female students' dormitory of Çankırı Karatekin University fell from the seventh floor, Anadolu Agency reported. 

Probe launched into imam for taking selfie with fallen Turkish soldier's coffin

An investigation has been launched into an imam who took a selfie with a fallen Turkish soldier's coffin in the Çine district of the Aegean province of Aydın. 

Süleyman Şen, the imam of the Mutaflar mosque in Aydın, took the picture and shared it on his social media account, state-run Anadolu Agency reported on Oct. 1. 

Soldier killed in PKK attack Turkey's east

One soldier was killed and five were injured in a mortar attack by the outlawed Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK) in the Çukurca district of the southeastern province of Hakkari on Oct. 1. 
PKK militants fired mortar shells at 05:30 a.m. on Oct. 1 in the Dağbaşı district on the border with Iraq during a military operation.

One soldier was killed and five were wounded in the attack.

Turkey Extends Syria, Iraq Mandate of Military by 2017

Turkish armed forces will be able to carry out cross-border operations in Syria and Iraq by the autumn of 2017, MPs in the country have decided.

Lawmakers in Turkey have approved an extension of the military's mandate with the approval of all parties except the Kurd-dominated Peace and Democracy Party (HDP).

Constitution change is priority, Erdoğan says at Turkish parliament opening

The new legislative year of the Turkish parliament began on Oct. 1 under the leadership of Parliament Speaker İsmail Kahraman with a ceremony where President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan said a constitution change should be a priority for the lawmakers.

"First we should materialize a constitution change," he said.

"I think that the recent steps are important."

Turkey finalizes military training base in Somalia

Turkey has finished its first military base in Somalia and will help train the country's army to fight the deadly al-Shabaab terror group, a senior Turkish source told Anadolu Agency on Oct. 1.

A Turkish military attache speaking on condition of anonymity said the U.N.-backed base will be operational by the start of 2017.

Six PKK militants 'neutralized' in Turkey's southeast, military says

Three militants of the outlawed Kurdistan Workers' Party were "neutralized" in an operation in southeastern Hakkari province's Çukurca district Sept. 30, the military said in a statement on Oct. 1.

The military uses the term "neutralized" for killed, injured or caught militants.

The Turkish General Staff said in the statement that the militants were preparing an attack.

Azerbaijani parliament approves TANAP project

National Parliament of Azerbaijan Republic approved Trans Anatolian Natural Gas Pipeline (TANAP) Project on Sept. 30.

Azerbaijani Parliament discussed issues including the cooperation between Azerbaijan and Turkey during the first meeting of the autumn.
