ECHR fines Turkey for violating Alevis' right to religious freedom

The European Court of Human Rights (ECHR) has found Turkey guilty of violating the right to religious freedom of Alevis and discriminating against them by withholding public funds for Alevi worship houses "with no objective and reasonable justification." As a result of the verdict, Turkey has been ordered to pay 3,000 euros in damages to each of the 203 applicants.

Turkey visa deal only once 'all criteria met': EU

The EU's top diplomat Federica Mogherini said April 26 that Turkey would only get visa-free travel to the bloc once it has met all the required criteria.
 
Turkey has demanded its citizens be allowed to enter the European Union's passport free Schengen zone without a visa by June, in exchange for it taking back migrants from Europe.
 

May Day to be held in Istanbul's Bak?rköy, minister says

Unions and the government have agreed to hold May 1 International Workers' Day celebrations in Istanbul's Bak?rköy district, Labor and Social Security Minister Süleyman Soylu said April 26.

Soylu said a delegation would visit Taksim to commemorate protesters murdered in the square in 1977 but the rally would be held in the Bak?rköy bazaar area.

Abducted Turkish ship crew freed

Six Turkish personnel who were abducted on April 11 from their ship off Nigeria's Port Harcourt have been released, a lawyer of their shipping company said on April 25. 

Fehmi Ülgener wrote in a statement that the abducted personnel of the ship, ?lkay Olgun, Haluk Buran, Furkan Topcu, Mehmet Babacan, ?ükrü Dömbek and Eray Falay, were set free and in a good health condition.

Turkish group closes down construction chemicals factory in Russia

Turkey's Kale Group has closed down its construction chemicals plant in Russia due to economic problems in the market, the group's chair has told Turkish weekly Ekonomist.

"This decision was actually made after the Ukraine crisis [began], but was recently realized," Kale Group Chair Zeynep Bodur Okyay was quoted as saying by the magazine on April 24.
