Economic confidence index slips in December

Economic confidence index decreased by 3.8 percent to 100.18 in December compared to previous month, amid rising tension between Turkey and Russia and uncertainties resulting from the rate hike decision by the U.S. Federal Reserve (Fed). 

Turkey arrests 3 ISIL suspects, including Briton

Turkish authorities have arrested three suspected members of the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL) jihadist group in Istanbul, including two Pakistanis and a Briton. 

Pakistani suspects had been detained last week in a raid on their homes in Istanbul's central Mecidiyeköy district, the state-run Anadolu Agency said.

Two Turkish editors released after first hearing over 'inciting crime'

Two editors of weekly news magazine Nokta who were arrested over charges of "inciting an armed uprising against the Turkish government" were released on Dec. 29.  

An Istanbul court ruled for the release of the magazine's editor-in-chief, Cevheri Güven, and its chief news editor, Murat Çapan, on Dec. 29 after the first hearing of the trial.

Russia ready to increase gas supplies to Turkey: Russian Minister

Russia is ready to scale up natural gas supplies to Turkey, Russian Energy Minister Alexander Novak said on Dec. 28 in an interview with Rossiya 24 TV Channel. 

"Russia has gas. Russian gas is fairly cheap. We have relevant infrastructure and we are definitely ready to supply and increase gas supplies [to Turkey]," the minister said, as quoted by TASS News Agency.
