A voter who photographed his own marked ballot inside the voting cubicle has been detained in Darıca in the northwestern province of Kocaeli.

Ballot box officials in Darıca informed police after they realized that a voter had taken a photo inside the box.       

A total of 232,000 Turkish citizens voted at ballot boxes overseas in the first round of Turkey’s presidential elections, falling far behind the government’s expectations in the first year of the undertaking.

An electronic voting system is to debut in Greek Parliament on Monday, putting an end to many of the lengthy roll call ballots in the House.

MPs will each be given a card that they will insert in a slot in front of their seats to register their vote.

Eight thousand Bulgarian voters tested the experimental voting machines at the European elections, reported the Central Electoral Commission (CEC), quoted by Sega daily. 

CEC will analyse the outcome and will present the official data next week. 

40% of Bulgarians took advantage of the preference vote option in the European Parliament elections by 2 pm on Sunday, according to exit poll data.

Around 22.7% of the eligible voters cast their ballots by 2 pm on Sunday and 40% of them used the preference voting option, according to exit poll data of polling agency Gallup International.

Millions of people are voting on the first day of the European elections 2014 in the United Kingdom and the Netherlands, Thursday.

Voting will take place in the EU's other 27 member states over the next four days, with 751 MEPs in total to be chosen.

The State Electoral Commission said that the voting went well with reports of minor irregularities.

“By 17h 41, 23 per cent of the electorate had cast their ballots” informed.

This is  considerably less than at the previous presidential poll five years ago when by this time, 48,73 percent had voted.

EU elections would not be an obstacle to holding a voting referendum on May 25, new electoral commission chief has said.

Ivilina Aleksieva, who was appointed chair of Bulgaria's Central Electoral Commission, made these comments in an interview for Bulgarian DARIK Radio.

KOSOVSKA MITROVICA - Member of Kosovo's Central Election Commission Nenad Rikalo said on Sunday he expected the votes from the rerun of the mayoral election in northern Kosovska Mitrovica, northern Kosovo, to be counted on the spot.
