Marija Obradovic appointed chair of Defence Committee

BELGRADE - A woman, Marija Obradovic of the Serbian Progressive Party (SNS), has been appointed chair of the Serbian parliament Committee on Defence and Internal Affairs on Thursday for the first time in history of Serbian parliamentarism.

Obradovic was appointed committee chair by majority vote at the proposition by SNS caucus whip Zoran Babic who expressed the belief that she would chair the committee well and do her best during the office just as she had done in the positions she previously occupied.

Obradovic expressed gratitude for the appointment and noted that the hard times and obligations would make the work of the Defence and Internal Affairs Committee interesting and added that all committee members need to be fully committed to their tasks.

At Obradovic's proposition, Bojan Kostres of the League of Social Democrats of Vojvodina was appointed by majority vote the deputy chair of the committee and five more women have been appointed committee members and they will work together with their other colleagues on the parliamentary control of the Ministry of Defence and the Ministry of the Interior.
