Stankovic’s short film nominated for student Oscar

LOS ANGELES - A short film ‘Way in Rye’ by young director Goran Stankovic has received a nomination for a 2014 Student Academy Award in the United States.

“The film ‘Way in Rye’ is my Master's degree film at the American Film Institute (AFI) in Los Angeles, and the story is set in Russia, at the time of World War Two,” Stankovic has told Tanjug.

Stankovic enrolled for a Master's degree in directing at the American Film Institute (AFI) three years ago, after first graduating from the Academy of Arts in Belgrade.

The film by the young Serbian film director is one of nine in the 2014 Student Academy Awards' Narrative category.

A total of forty-one students from 23 U.S. colleges and universities and 10 students from foreign universities have been selected as finalists in the 41st edition of the competition.

The winners of the Oscars for best student film will be brought to Los Angeles for a week of industry activities and social events that will culminate in the awards ceremony on June 7, the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences has said in a release.
