Veljovic receives medal from Republic of Austria

VIENNA - Serbia's General Police Director Milorad Veljovic was decorated on Monday with the medal of the Republic of Austria for the promotion of police cooperation.

The Grand Gold Medal of Merit of the Republic of Austria was presented to Veljovic on behalf of Austrian President Heinz Fischer by Konrad Kogler, Director-General for Public Security of Austria.

On this occasion, Kogler pointed to the significant contribution of Veljovic to strengthening the ties between the two countries' police forces.
"This medal means a great deal to me personally, but I do not consider it as my own, but as the achievement of the police and the Interior Ministry, the government of Serbia and my country,” said Veljovic.

The recognition shows that Serbian police has established excellent regional and broader international cooperation, underlined Veljovic in his statement to Tanjug.

The cooperation with Austrian police stands at a very high level, noted Veljovic, adding that the two countries joined forces in the fight against drug smuggling and human trafficking, as well as financial crime, as in the case of Hypo Alpe-Adria Bank.

The medal presented by the Republic of Austria also shows that Serbia remains firmly on its path towards the EU accession, stressed Veljovic.
