Gasic attends final race of Tank Biathlon

BELGRADE - Serbia's Defence Minister Bratislav Gasic has attended the relay race of the Tank Biathlon near Moscow, the Defence Ministry said on Saturday.

He complimented the Serbian tank troops on the level of skill they had displayed and stated he was very happy they had won 4th place in the competition.

Such competitions are very important for measuring the quality of the Serbian troops and level of the armed forces' modernisation compared to other armies, he noted.

The Serbian Armed Forces will continue to take part in such competitions, he remarked, adding that Serbian troops were welcome guests and partners all over the world.

Russian Defence Minister Sergey Shoygu presented a medal for the development of international military cooperation to the commander of Serbia's best tank crew, Ninoslav Djudjic.

Shoygu commended all the participants of the Tank Biathlon at the closing ceremony and thanked the countries who had sent their crews to the competition. Russia won the final race of this year's Biathlon, followed by Armenia, China and Kazakhstan.

Russian crews won the first two places in the crew competition category, while a Kazakh crew was third.

Good results in purely tank disciplines were not enough for the Serbian team, as the oldest in the competition, to compensate for poor performance in the sporting disciplines, so Serbia ended up in 8th place overall.
