Road, railway infrastructure to be reconstructed by October

BELGRADE - The reconstruction of the road and railway infrastructure damaged in the May floods will be complete by October 1, whereas landslides will be repaired by the end of the year, the Serbian Ministry of Construction, Transport and Infrastructure said in a statement on Monday.

Based on final reports from the Roads of Serbia and Serbian Railways public enterprises and local authorities, the direct damage to transport infrastructure is estimated at around EUR 140 million.

The damage to railway infrastructure amounts to RSD 3.42 billion (around EUR 30 million), while the damage due to interruptions in passenger and freight operations is estimated at around RSD 385 million, or around EUR 3.32 million.

The total damage to public roads amounts to over RSD 12 billion (over EUR 105 million).

The estimate includes the damage to Category 1 and Category 2 state roads and landslides, which amounts to around RSD 3.9 billion (around EUR 35 million), damage to road structures (around RSD 665 million, or approximately EUR 5.80 million) and damage to corridors (Corridor 10 - E 80 and Route 4 - E 763 motorway) - around RSD 1.8 billion (around EUR 16.65 million).

The total also includes the damage to local roads - estimated at around RSD 5.5 billion (around EUR 46.50 million).

However, the total damage estimate is not final because, in addition to indirect damage, subsequent damage resulting from soil settlement must also be taken into account.
