Sertic: Government, unions to work jointly on privatization

BELGRADE - Serbia will do everything in its power to save as many companies as possible through the privatization process, and to achieve this, it will need the trade unions' help, Economy Minister Zeljko Sertic said Tuesday at a meeting with the representatives of the Alliance of Independent Unions of Serbia (SSSS).

Sertic met with the leaders of branch trade unions and discussed with them the economic situation in Serbia and the fate of companies undergoing privatization. The minister stressed that the government of Serbia is committed to working jointly with the trade unions on the successful completion of the privatization process, the Ministry of Economy said in a release.

"To accomplish this, we need the help of the trade unions so that we could work on resolving many issues together, and timely prevent any irregularities which, unfortunately, often occurred in the past," underlined Sertic.

SSSS representatives agreed with the minister that it is vital to ensure sustainable growth for the companies that are to be privatized, and to try to keep them in the same line of business. They concurred that production growth is the only condition for the economic recovery of Serbia, the release states.
