China opens magnificent stand at International Book Fair

BELGRADE - A magnificent stand of this year's guest of honor of the International Book Fair, the People's Republic of China, has been ceremonially opened by Chinese Deputy Minister of the State Administration of Press, Publication, Radio, Film and Television Sun Shoushan and Belgrade Mayor Sinisa Mali.

For the first time in the fair's history, the guest of honor will have at its disposal a total of 1,000 square meters for its impressive display of works and a delegation of 200 members, including 100 representatives of 60 publishing companies.

By November 2, China will present its writers, books, publications on tradition, civilization, Chinese society, and organize meetings of writers and publishers, book promotions, discussions, dialogues and lessons of Chinese language.

Shoushan expressed satisfaction that China is partaking in the Book Fair, adding that this is the most important event of the kind in the region.

We are honored that the audience will have an opportunity to get acquainted with the Chinese civilization as this will be an important platform for the two countries' exchange and development, he said, adding that books are the best spiritual connection between countries.

Mali said that he is happy that China is the Fair's guest of honor as Serbia has a close and very successful cooperation with this country, adding that the country's participation in the Fair will deepen and expand their cooperation in the area of culture.

He noted that a few months ago a bilateral agreement was signed in the area of publishing and translation, which resulted in a greater number of Serbian and Chinese writers who are being translated, and thereby a higher level of cultural exchange and cooperation.
