The U.S. Chargé d'Affaires a.i. Dean Thompson says in a message on the National Day of Romania that he is proud to name our country "an ally and a friend of the United States", highlighting that the US are waiting with interest the continuation of the strategic partnership for many years from now.

According to his message sent from the Bucharest US Embassy, in the name of President Obama, of secretary of state Kerry and of the American people, he is happy to congratulate the Romanians on the Day of the Great Unification. Ninety six years ago, says he, the Romanians have united to create a democratic state which guaranteed the equality of all nationalities and religions and protected the freedom of the press, the freedom of association and the freedom of speech. On this very day, he added, we honour those visionary leaders and applaud the ones who continue to defend these fundamental freedoms, to strengthen democracy and celebrate diversity in Romania.

The United States of America are grateful for the significant contributions of Romania to the regional and world security, says the charge d'affaires in his message.

As NATO allies, we stand next to each other in Afghanistan, develop joint military drills and collaborate at the military bases at Deveselu and Mihail Kogalniceanu. Together, we protect our citizens from the international criminality and terrorists (...) I am proud to name Romania an ally and a friend of the United States and, today, when celebrating Romania's National Day next to family and friends you should know we are waiting with interest to continue our strategic partnership for many years from now. Happy Birthday, Romania!, said Dean Thompson, in the message he sent on Romania's National Day.AGERPRES
