Unemployment rate hits 5.29 pct in December

The unemployment rate in Romania hit 5.29 percent at a national level at end-Dec., by 0.11 percent higher than in Nov. and by 0.36 percentage points lower than at end-Dec. 2013, says a release sent by the National Employment Agency to AGERPRES on Thursday.

The joblessness rate by sexes was up in Dec. from the prior month, i.e. 5.78 percent up from 5.57 percent for men and 4.73 percent down from 4.74 percent for women.

The unemployment by age brackets in Dec. 2014 was as follows: 78,185 out-of-work aged below 25; also 39,024 are aged between 25 and 29, another 102,188 are aged between 30 and 39, while 129,554 jobless are between 40 and 49 years of age and 60,679 jobless are aged between 50 and 55; there are also 68,708 unemployed aged over 55, the Agency explained.

As many as 140,955 of the total unemployed were on unemployment benefits and 337,383 were not getting benefits. There were by 10,909 more out-of-work on benefits, while the jobless with no benefits were by 1,420 more in Dec. from Nov., the Agency announced.AGERPRES
