President Iohannis: Atrocities in Libya show there is urgent need for political solution to this conflict

President Klaus Iohannis has labeled the beheading by IS-affiliated terrorists of Egyptian Christians in Libya as an act of unspeakable cruelty and barbarity, pointing out that these atrocities show there is urgent need of a political solution to this conflict in this country, and also to show zero tolerance towards such terrorist groups.

"The Islamic State group yesterday posted online a video record showing the beheading in Libya of 21 Egyptian Christian men. The killing of innocent people and the persecutions against Christians by the IS-affiliated terrorists represent an act of unspeakable cruelty and barbarity, needing a firm reaction from the international community," Iohannis wrote on his Facebook page.

He also underscored that "these atrocities show there is urgent need of a political solution to the conflict in Libya and also to apply a zero tolerance treatment to such terrorist groups."

The Islamic State movement (IS) on Sunday posted online a video showing how some men they presented as Egyptian Christians recently kidnapped in Libya were decapitated, as reported by the AFP. AGERPRES
