Record number of marathon participants, soldiers to race too

BELGRADE - Preparations for the 28th Belgrade Marathon have been completed and the race, due to take place on April 18, should gather a record number of participants in elite races, the organisers of the Belgrade traditional event announced in the City Assembly on Tuesday.

Over 4,000 marathon and semi-marathon runners should take part in the race, and this number will set a new event record, Belgrade City Manager Goran Vesic told a news conference in the City Assembly and added that in case the number of runners applying for participation in the marathon exceeds 5,000, application submission will have to be interrupted.

State Secretary in the Serbian Defence Ministry Zoran Djordjevic announced that 160 members of the Armed Forces of the Republic of Serbia should also take part in the traditional Belgrade race.

This year, the Belgrade Marathon opened the doors to pets which will take part in a special race due to take place after the Race of Pleasure.
